British BIDs, part of Savills Place, held its annual National Conference in Euston in November, centred around the theme “What’s Next for BIDs?”

Over 260 delegates from across the UK attended the event to hear the latest policy updates from Catherine Bennion, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). The conference also featured support and endorsement for BIDs from Florence Eshalomi MP, who has recently been appointed Chair of the MHCLG Select Committee. Wesley Ankrah from Savills Earth presented on the significance of social value and its importance to our communities. Chris Turner, British BIDs’ Head of Research, shared findings and insights from this year’s authoritative National BIDs survey. Additional sessions brought together BID leaders and practitioners from various sectors, creating a powerful combination of experience, knowledge, and passion.  We also celebrated those BIDs that successfully underwent the British BIDs Accreditation process, and we took time to recognise individuals who completed our Certificate in BID Management and Diploma in BID Leadership.

In his closing remarks at the end of this very positive conference, British BIDs Chair Nic Durston highlighted several themes that emerged throughout the day. These included the recognition of BIDs as vital components of the civic and civil infrastructure of our towns and cities, the significant contributions we can make to local, regional, and national growth, and the importance of ensuring our voices are heard and valued by government at all levels.
