Businesses in Tooting have voted against creating a Business Improvement District (BID) for their town centre.

A BID would have created over £1million of spend over the next five years.

Commenting on the ballot outcome, Paul Clement, director, head of place-shaping at Savills said: “Since our initial studies in 2014, our joint working with Wandsworth Borough Council has helped to create BIDs in Wandsworth, Putney and Clapham Junction. As with any BID proposal, the decision taken by businesses in Tooting is their democratic right and we will now need to help them plan an alternative future as falling behind other locations cannot be an option.”
