Paul Clement, head of place-shaping at Savills, presented at the UK Residential Investment Conference in London on Wednesday 27th November 2019.

Delegates and speakers attended on the day to discuss topics including the private rented sector, build to rent and residential in the UK. Paul was invited to present alongside other special guests including Alan Collett from Hyde Housing Group, Richard Donnell, research and insight director at Zoopla, David Woodward, chief executive at Global Apartment Advisors and Simon Scott, head of residential investment at JLL.

Paul addressed a packed room about what the residential management and build to rent sector can learn from the more experienced commercial, leisure and retail sectors and how this can better inform future house building. Using his place-shaping expertise, Paul also discussed creating the optimum physical and social environment to fulfil this opportunity.

Commenting at the conference, Paul said: “Ultimately a lot more homes are needed in our cities than ever before and we need to think about and introduce more creative ways of integrating homes and workspaces in order to support local growth. Commercial and residential remain tightly linked when it comes to creating places and the conference was a great opportunity to speak to wide range of people about the future of this ever-evolving sector.”

Savills Place believes that places are not defined by their built form, but rather through the way in which people use, interpret, think, feel and talk about them. The role of Savills Place is to identify and bring to the fore those unique characteristics and build upon them to create distinctive and enduring places capable of extraordinary experiences.
